Leather Book Carrier, c. 1880-1910
Nice, c. 1880-1910, very large leather book carrier. It is signed underneath the handle: DEPOSE E.D. The carrier top measures 11-3/4″ by 1-5/8″ with the handle opening is 4-5/8″ long by 1-3/8″ high. I have never seen one this size. It is either a school master’s to carry slates and large books to class or maybe a lawyer or accountant to carry their larger books. It is in very good condition considering the age. The straps have some cracking but no breakthroughs and can still be used today. I would oil it.
