Leerdam Art Deco Frosted Crystal Glass Madonna & Child Sculpture – Stef Uiterwaal

$50.00

An Art Deco glass sculpture of the Madonna with baby Jesus designed by Stef Uiterwaal for Leerdam in 1929.

The figure is Art Deco in period but in design you can certainly see the beginnings of Modernist form.

The figure is in crystal glass and the exterior has been frosted to soften the dynamic.  The figure was produced using the pressed technique in the same way as Lalique from the same period.

Their factory mark can be found to the reverse where it is molded into the body.  The sculpture has a beautiful look and the frosted finish gives a different and softer feel compared to the famous Daum clear examples.

Leerdam Glass (named after the Dutch town where it is based) produced mostly table ware and functional items until the early 20th century when their production of art glass started.  They employed famous designs to produce wonderful and often colorful art glass which is much sought after today.

This beautiful satin/frosted crystal glass, art deco style figurine measures 9.5″ tall. and 2″ in diameter at the base. Itmarked with embossed lettering on the back near the base ” G U S L”.
