Bain-Marie: Double dishes that provide a protective water jacket are known as bains-marie and help keep delicate foods, such as fish, warm while preventing overcooking. The pyrex platter allows you to warm food in your oven and then place over the hot water.
The W. & S. Blackinton Co. was in Meriden Connecticut and started as a gold jewelry manufacturer in 1865 by a couple of brothers. In 1938 they were bought out by the Ellmore Silver Co. After the buyout silver plating was commenced. This was slowed during World War II and started back up in 1945.
This unusual, serviceable and hard to find serving piece measures: Overall – 16.5″ x 11.25″x 5.5″ The Pyrex Well & Tree Platter is 14.5″ 10.25″ x 1.25″. There is a slight wobble that is insignificant and does not impede looks or use. If you find it to be an issue, a small felt pad on one rear foot will take care of it.
