Victorian Needlework Face Screen – Heat Shield – ca.1870-1890
This is an absolutely marvelous Victorian Needlework Face Screen – Heat Shield – ca.1870-1890, that appears to have had some professional restoration at some point.
Not many of these survived! They are not easy to find today and when the opportunity presents itself, one should jump at the opportunity to enhance their collection!
Unlike the conventional folding fans and hand held face screens, this example was not a fashion accessory for women to carry but was part of the furnishing of a room.
The stand is 19.5″ tall and the horizontal arm is 9″ long. The Needlework is 7′ x 9″ not including the tassel.
These face screens protected a lady’s face from the heat of a candle, lamp or fire.
