18th c. Georgian Silver Toddy / Punch Ladle w/ 1758 George II Shilling – Baleen Handle
$395.00
A rare opportunity to own an exquisitely elegant 18th c. Georgian Silver Toddy / Punch Ladle w/ 1758 George II Shilling and Twisted Baleen Handle.
The M over I M on the front of the bowl appears to be a monogram as these ladles were generally not hallmarked. By and large, it seems to be accepted in action rooms that this type of ladle is contemporary to the date of the coin. Destroying a coin of the realm in this manner was illegal so no hallmarking could be done and w/o hallmarks it is impossible to establish an exact date.
The baleen handle floated, making it easier to retrieve the ladle when dropped in the punch
This ladle is approximately 14″ long with a 2.25″ diameter bowl. The bowl is 1″ deep.
There maybe additional Baleen Handled ladles available
Additional “Coined – When Silver & Coins Are Joined” pieces available
