This Hand Coloured Engraving Titled – “Dr. Syntax And The Dairy Maid” is an 18th Century Print from Tours of Dr. Syntax – ca. 1812 – by Thomas Rowlandson.
Thomas Rowlandson’s designs were usually done in outline with the reed-pen, and delicately washed with color. Copper plates were used to print the engravings.
Thomas Rowlandson was a 19th Century British visual artist who was born in 1756 and died in 1827.
This hand colored engraving was professionally framed in the 1950’s by an art and frame shop in Denver, Colorado. The framed dimensions are 10.75″ by 7.25″. The engraving measures 8.75″ by 5.25″. The left corner is marked “Designed and Etched by Rowlandson”. The center of the engraving has the title: “Dr. Syntax And The Dairy Maid”. Matted and framed w/o glass.
