Large Petticoat Double Wick Whale Oil Lamp – c. 1860 w/ Orig Asphalta Finish

This ca. 1860 large petticoat double wick whale oil lamp has its original asphalta finish.

It measures 6 1/2″ to top of oil tubes and 3 5/8″ base diameter.

The base doubles as a peg lamp on a candlestick to increase the light by using the candlestick as an oil lamp and not just candle light.(picture #8) Picture #2 shows the peg on the bottom of the lamp.

This petticoat lamp is in very good condition with some scratches as expected for age and use. The side fill hole is missing its cap but has cork replacement.

Pictures #4 & #7 are images from the book: Early Lighting A Pictorial Guide, The Rushlight Club 1972.

This petticoat lamp will make a nice addition to an early lighting collection.

The Tin Tole, dish push-up Candle Holder used to demonstrate the peg feature in picture #8 may still be available
