Embossed Brass Frame w/ Napoleon Portrait – Lord & Taylor – New York
This beautiful Embossed Brass Frame w/ Napoleon’s Portrait is marked “Lord & Taylor – New York”. Beautiful as it is but really waiting for you to add a special family picture.
The opening is 5-1/4″ high by 3″ wide and the outside frame dimensions are 6-3/4″ high by 3-3/4″ across.
The brass is exquisitely embossed with a delicate scroll-and leaf design with touches of a red glaze accent. It has an antiqued patina and looks almost like copper at some of the high points.
The top has a crown of open-work leaves and the back has both a loop for hanging and an easel for standing. It is stamped: LORD & TAYLOR
I am impressed with the design for replacing the photo: the top of the back panel is hinged along the sides. When you pull on the loop/ring the lid swings downwards so you can slide out the glass and picture from the top; a wonderful construction and very easy to use.
The print in the frame is a 1942 German postcard with a portrait of a youngish Napoleon Bonaparte, from a painting by “F. Rumpa—“(?). It has been cut down slightly to fit the frame.
